Trauma in Life and War

Professor Tendler was so young we would not think this would be possible. He hadn't even hit puberty yet, he wasn't even in high school yet. Having everyone you love killed and having to lay in a pile of bodies of your own people, is something that will be in his mind for the rest of his life. Tendler will not be the same kid after this happens. Tendler is no longer himself, he is now the boy that feels the need to kill to stay alive. After Tendler was liberated from the death camp he went home, and found out that the only people that he was close to were also trying to kill him. So now having gone through the entire trauma of his family murdered and going through death camp, is it expected that he run away? No way he is going to kill them all, because he believes that if he doesn't kill them now they will kill him later, if he runs they will find him, and after all of his fighting to stay alive he will not be killed by a woman that helped raise him, and her family. .
For Rat Kiley, he was a soldier in a society does not understand the concept of war. They think that soldiers go over to the enemy and shoot them all up and come home and try to reintegrate themselves back in to society. The sad truth is that our soldiers, too many times, come back to the states and are traumatized from elements of war and get depressed, yet at the same time are still soldiers and are too prideful to get help, and they end up killing themselves. Soldiers are prepared for traumatizing events from the moment that they enlist into the military. However they still have the highest rate of suicide, divorce, you name it. Rat was a young soldier and we think that he has whole life ahead of him; nothing can bring him down, and then boom. His best friend dies right before his eyes. All of the sudden Rat is brought back to reality. In the military you are expected, no required, to keep on moving forward no matter what.
