John is not interested in Abby and wishes he would leave himself and his wife alone. Proctor goes through an ordeal by conscience due to the court and all Salem finding out about him committing adultery with Abigail. .
Abigail is a very rebellious, demanding and under minding person who will do anything in her powers to get what she wants. She continues to show through out the play how strong her character is and how much strength and persuasion she has. In act 1 Abigail relies the effect of the dancing in the woods has as her and her uncle Parris talk Abigail keeps telling him they were dancing but nothing to the extent of witchcraft she also explains how she loves Betty and would never do anything to hurt her in any way, .
"I would never hurt Betty. I love her dearly", .
I think this was Abby"'"s way of knocking her uncles concentration to Betty instead of thinking about the dancing in the woods but I also think Abby is scared at this moment in the play as she does not know what is wrong with Betty and if it has any connection to the conjuring of spirits in the woods. Through out this act Abby continues to tell her uncle how there were not conjuring spirits in the woods they were simply dancing. I think at this point in the play Abigail is showing to be week and it"'"s only the start but as I started to read the rest its like she gets stronger and stronger. Also in Act 1 Parris is questioning Abby about why she was dismissed from the proctors house (I think he knows about the affair at this point) and Abigail explains that Elizabeth hates her and is a liar but I think this is all a front to get her uncle to believe the lies she is telling him. In chapter three I can see how much lies and how deceitful Abigail actually is she pretends to see something and blames Mary for being possessed by the devil, .
'"'Why do you come, yellow bird?'"' .
Abby was protesting that there was a yellow bird on the ceiling of the courtroom and as she done so the other girls followed what she said.
