That is a low cost strategy. And this strategy is most suitable for the strong pressure on cost reduction and minimal local responsiveness. First, IKEA have 2400 firms in 65 countries, by giving equipment and technical advice, IKEA gain low prices contract with these suppliers. Therefore IKEA can have a lower cost on producing the furniture. Second, in the design of furniture, IKEA also try hard to reduce the cost on it, the designers of IKEA work closely with the suppliers to build savings into the products by designing products that can be produced at a low cost, it also help IKEA to save a lot of money. Thirdly, in the running cost of the outlet stores, IKEA use the cheap out-of-town stores to display its enormous range of more than 10,000 products. Also, IKEA sell its products as kits for customers to take home and assemble themselves, these can let IKEA save the high rent value of the store in town due to out-of-town stores' rent is much lower, and IKEA can save money of employing cars and employees to transport the products for the customers by just let them take the products themselves to home and assemble it.
