The Function and Power of Language Study

From the magazine aimed at early adults called "Ralph" issued in April 2003, the Fat Pizza movie ad is strongly persuasive and effective. With the use of a merged photo, effective language, different fonts, a persuasive layout and a range of colours, the ad influences an adult audience of both men and woman, but mostly men, to watch the movie. .
The part of the advertisement that catches your eye at first is defiantly the merged photo in the centre. The photo consists of the cast grouped around a pizza with the movies logo in the middle. However the section of the picture that will catch the eye of the male community is the lower region of an attractive girl's behind, which is the largest photo on the advertisement. Also in the top right hand corner there is a lovely blonde woman not shy to show off her breast region to the camera; this will defiantly catch the attention of males.
The advertisement also uses effective language that would catch the audience's attention such as big, fat, cars and chicks. It seems to most people, especially woman, that these are the only four words in the male vocabulary except for sex; therefore it would be called the male language that is used in the advertisement. Saying that, the designers of the advertisement would know this and to put them all on the same advertisement would be an advantage. Also the words/language used match the picture on some occasions; for example the word "chicks" would refer to the half naked women presented in the picture and the word "fat" is presented in the picture on four occasions, which would automatically imprint the word into the male brain.
Different fonts are used in the Fat Pizza advertisement to attract the audience's attention. Firstly at the top of the advertisement there is writing in small cap with a plane big size font and black shadowing around the edges, which are words that you can refer the movie as. For instance, the movie is "big", the movie is "fat" or the movie is "cheesy".
