Plagiarism

At work and in school, especially in college, people are temped into using other people's ideas as their own in their work. Plagiarism is using other people's ideas and words without clearly giving credit to the source of that information. Plagiarizing includes copying and pasting information from the encyclopedia, books, magazines, newspaper and Internet. Translating information from one language to another is also another type of plagiarism. College student are very temped into plagiarizing when it comes to writing papers. With so many Internet sites that offer papers (essay) on just about anything, it becomes very provoking to plagiarize. .
When writing a paper, a person needs to show that they have done some research. If the person is going to copy any part of the research they need to cite it, putting quotation marks but if the person is writing from his or her own thoughts or experience then it is not necessary to give credit. The person needs to write something new and original, or else there is no point into writing anything because it could have just been read from somewhere else. The person needs to be extra careful when paraphrasing, by using his or her own words. When writing something you think is common knowledge, citation is not essential. People do get penalized for plagiarizing. Every school has its own rules for plagiarizing. The most common types of penalties for plagiarizing is receiving a zero for a class, receiving a zero for every class that semester, being on probation, and even expulsion from the school. Penalties in high school are not as severe as those in colleges, but it all depends in the school. .
In conclusion, plagiarizing is not good. Not only will the school punish the plagiarizer, but also he or she will only be cheating himself or herself. The act of plagiarizing is an offense to the classmates. It is not fair for others who have worked fairly to get a bad grade, while the cheaters who have not done their work truthfully, get a good grade.
