I Choose

             I Choose.
On my bulletin board, over my study desk is a motto displayed on faded blue construction paper that says "I will try harder!" I choose to challenge myself. The discipline to challenge oneself must be implemented long before the consequences of remaining idle occur. Throughout high school I have inquired, along with many other students, as to the difficulty of certain courses, and the level of work required by each teacher. As intimidating as course profiles and professors are rumored to be, I refuse to let rumor influence me or omit them from my schedule. Amazingly, classes that seem impossible turn manageable, and those that begin easy metamorphosize into what you hoped they wouldn't become.
By accelerating my level of classes, I have not completely individualized myself. Nor do I do this by remaining in the class after a difficult semester. What separates me is my recognition of the many paths I have created by the choices I have made.
By my course selection, I have met college application requirements, and in many cases exceeded them. By motivating myself, I have become an independent individual who works without the aid of others. Most importantly, I have created a life long desire to learn instead of circumventing an educator's challenge.
Carrying the same principals into work, I have taken it upon myself to exceed expectations. After four months of working at a local burger joint, I was promoted to assistant manager where I am expected to train new female workers, as well as pass down my knowledge and work ethic. Unfortunately, not all the employees take as much pleasure in the job as I do, and many times I oversee those without the dedication to stick with it. Their time between losing interest and leaving is never very long.
Negative consequences evolve not only from bad decisions, but from taking the easy way out. I choose to throw myself into the fire.
