Sexual Disclosure

            The results tended to follow the original predictions laid out at the beginning of the study. The extent of self-disclosure tended to lean more towards sexual likes than dislikes. It also found that women tended to self-disclose more sexual and nonsexual information than males. Another unsurprising finding was that nonsexual self-disclosure occurred more frequently than sexual self-disclosure, which supports one of the initial predictions. .
             Byers and Demmons developed a table displaying a multiple regression analysis used to help predict sexual self-disclosure when compared to general relationship characteristics (1999). This table sets up relationships between sexual self-disclosure and the different forms of satisfaction discussed in the beginning of the study. .
             We can now begin to use the data presented to draw conclusions about sexual self-disclosure. In predicting its affect on sexual communication satisfaction, it points out that a greater degree of self-disclosure leads to higher satisfaction. It was also found that nonsexual as well as sexual disclosure are both factors in measuring satisfaction. The next assumption is based on using sexual exchange to relate sexual self-disclosure with relationship and sexual satisfaction. It accomplishes this by creating an understanding of sexual self-disclosures affect on rewards and cost, where rewards alone seem to be significantly linked with the amount and extent of sexual self-disclosure. They also tried to associate relationship satisfaction with sexual satisfaction. The results showed sexual satisfaction as being an intermediary between sexual self-disclosure and relationship satisfaction. It suggests "association between sexual self-disclosure and sexual satisfaction comes about in part as a result of the association between relationship satisfaction and sexual satisfaction" (Byers, et al., 1999) and not the other way around.
