"Hanged by the neck until you are dead", these eight words take away a life, do you agree, disagree or don't you yet know?.
The legal age for the Death Penalty is 18.When 18 you are just allowed to drink alcohol. So why does it share the same age limit as the Death Penalty? At 18 you are only a young adult, just getting into life.So is it fair to take away the life of such a young person? "Depends what crime they have committed?" is the most common answer you would get if you did a survey, crimes such as murder and rape. I don't think someone who has committed crimes like these deserve to live a good life but, is putting them to death not a bit much or is it better for the criminal? They could stay in a cell and not be a danger to anyone.Since 1985 nine under 18yr olds were put to death, this says that laws to do with the Death Penalty aren't being abided and lives are being taken away when it shouldn't happen but I feel that under 18's should be executed if the crime is so horrific that that is what is warranted.
Here is an example of the Death Penalty.
Many years ago in the U.K. two boys broke into a sweet shop, their names were Chris Craig and Derrick Bentley. Derrick was caught by Pc Miles and Chris was cornered holding a gun, Derrick then said "Let him have it Craig". Did he mean hand him the gun or to shoot him? Nobody knows. Craig then shot Pc Miles and they were both caught and put on trial. Derrick was given the death penalty but Chris wasn't yet old enough so didn't. One thing they never thought about was Derrick had a mental problem and had a mental age of a 11yr old.ThisI found unfair as he was unable to control his actions .Despite this he was put to death on the 28th of January at 9 am by hanging. He was given a glass of brandy then hung. His name was cleared 45 years after this but it was too late. .
Can you imagine how you would feel if a member of your family, a friend or just someone you know like Derrick Bentley was put to death and then later on was found innocent? No amount of money is going to bring that person back.
