My First Bad Time

Everyone has a first time for something, whether it is a good or a bad experience. Some people only experience the good times. For instance, their first kiss, their first car, or their first time to go bungee jumping. Not everyone can be so fortunate, some people experience their first time in jail, their first time to lose a parent, or their first time to attempt suicide. Some people even have to experience living with someone who has a mental disorder. .
Unfortunately for me, I have experienced a few of the life's bad experiences. The worst of them all happened at the beginning of my senior year in high school. My parents had just gotten a divorce. They were married for twenty long, miserable years. The younger part of their marriage was not horrible, but after my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer, their relationship hit rock bottom. The lack of emotional and physical support from my father along with the lethal chemotherapy and radiation treatments put an enormous amount of stress on my mother. I always knew this would result in a painful divorce. I hate my father because of the way he treated my mother during one of the most difficult times of her life. Ever since, I have felt very uncomfortable around my father, so when my mom moved out, I went with her. .
We moved out of our secluded country home into a townhouse in the loud, fast-paced city. It was a pretty big change. We went from falling asleep to the sound of nature's lullabies, to the obnoxious 3 a.m. honking of cars driving by and all the commotion of our next door neighbor's nightlife. After a while of living in the city, I forgot how the crickets made that annoying, yet soothing chirping sound. I forgot the frogs and this single owl that would hoot at the same time every night as if he were nature's security system. Although I missed the peacefulness of the country, I never felt more free than when I was with mom in that noisy little townhouse.
