Evolution of Individual Rights and Liberties

This paper is going to present the evolution of Individual rights and liberties in England and in the Colonies and States of the Confederation from the years 1215-1925. To include an amendment to the Original Bill of rights that was ratified in 1992, two hundred and three years after the original Bill Of Rights was framed. I will also explain the First Amendment, often considered the most important amendment in the Bill of Rights.
             Body:.
"The first ten Amendments to the Constitution of the United States became known as the Bill of Rights because they contained freedoms that Americans held to be their inalienable rights. So important were these rights that several states insisted on a promise of amendments guaranteeing individual rights before they would ratify the Constitution." (www.freedomforum.org) In 12th century England, King John ruled with an iron fist regularly leaving heavy taxes and imposing his will as he saw fit. The English Barons grew tired of it and forced King John to sign what would be called the Magna Carta in 1215. It guaranteed such rights as, trial by jury and due process of law, requiring the government to be fair in its actions. The Magna Carta established the principle that the monarch's power is not absolute. .
In the 16th century the monarchs of England did not always respect the Magna Carta. During the 400 hundred years since King John signed the document, Parliament, the English legislature, gradually grew in influence. In 1628 Parliament's new strength decided not to approve the now King Charles I request for more taxes, until King Charles I signed the petition of right, which prohibited the monarch from arresting people unlawfully and housing troops in private homes without the owners" consent. I would think this law would not only benefit the owners but the service members themselves, as a fellow service member I could only imagine the uncomfortable feeling one would have, staying in a home that you are probably not wanted.
