In seeing this pompous view that the Atlanteans held, Zues, decided that it was time to teach them a lesson and crush their power hungry selves. He first had to gather all of the gods to come to a council to determine the fate of this once prosperous now corrupt isle. Obviously they decided to flood the island, leaving no remains and absolutely no evidence of its existence.
Through the mysterious aspects and odd fairytale like qualities, many audiences are drawn to this text. Such as in the text it explains how the gods" supernatural powers created this island and handed the responsibility to the people who inhabited the land. ("The Story of Atlantis")This story targets the people of today or yesterday that have power and/or a lifestyle that provides them with nourishment to the fullest. Some other demographics of the target audience are those who have a high level of education as well as the upper class. For the main focal point in the tale of Atlantis focuses persons with these two classifications. No specific gender is targeted in this story but the approximate age group that this is geared toward is adults(they alone hold the power in today's world) since it explains the destruction of a society through the inside. Even though younger kids are often exposed to the tale of Atlantis through a Disney movie and story books they do not get the full meaning by the way the detailed moral issue of the text is not conveyed to them. The focus for the kids is more on the disappearance of a great city and the lengths people go or have gone to search for its "lost treasures" and utopian way of life.
Reading between the lines and dissecting this story will lead one to be far less sympathetic as it goes along. Here you have this great society that has every good fortune imaginable, beautiful people, and a fruitful life ahead of anybody whom is lucky enough to be born into this world of happiness.
