             Personality is what makes up an individual. Odysseus is the main character and hero in The Odyssey. Without hesitation, Odysseus is definitely not your typical character. In a Greek Epic such as this one, it was common for a Hero to have the characteristics of a common individual. These Epics were used as a guide to the Greek citizens to remind them of their civic virtues and duties as an individual. An example of this, is the realistic personality of Odysseus. Most readers expect the main character of a book to be flawless. However it is Odysseus" lust of adventure, violent temper, and arrogance, that help mold this epic, and explains why he made it home to Ithaca despite the obstacles and hardships. .
             It was a fair amount of gold and treasures that Odysseus and received after the battle of Troy. The battle and adventure was over for the Heroes! All of the Heroes except for Odysseus who lusted and desired to venture more for treasures. He found temporary satisfaction at the Island of Ismaros. More gold and priceless treasures to take home, and more lives to be consumed by his hungry sword. Which brought him great honor, and satisfied his lust for adventure. However it was because of this covet that Odysseus found himself wandering around the vast Earth for 20 years, as an ordinary person would find themselves 20 years in prison. .
             Odysseus is a perfect example to show that anger often leads to acts of violence. It was Eurylokhos that tested Odysseus" heart of stone, by calling him a fool. Odysseus replied with a mind to "draw the blade that swung against his side and chop him bowling his head upon the ground." More than likely this act would've been followed through had not his shipmates halted him. Odysseus feared no one, and it was this maneuver that Odysseus used to that instilled fear in his enemies. .
             Everyone Odysseus came into contact with, he introduced himself as: "Odysseus, the great raider of cities.
