Personality types in lord of the flies

In the novel Lord of the Flies, Golding represents several personality types, ranging from the moral Piggy to the pure Simon to the evil, satanic Roger. The personalities are astoundingly clear, mainly because being marooned on the island and having to resort to primitive ways brings out their true characters. Some are moral, and others seem to have no morals at all, to the point where the reader is forced to wonder how they could have ever fit into normal society at all. Most or all personalities are portrayed by Golding in the boys, but the most prominent are Piggy's, Ralph's, Jack's, Simon's, and Roger's.
Simon is by far the kindest and most moral character in the book, to the point where his goodness is as obsolete as Jack's evilness. Where Jack and Ralph appear to be opposites, Simon merely represents a kind of ingrained, nearly inhuman kindness that sets him apart from everyone else. Because of this, Simon stands unconditionally apart from all the other characters in the book. The book shows the reader how the urge to be civil is not nearly as strong in humans as the urge to be savage is. Simon is the only boy of the crowd who shows true and honest kindness, which he shows by taking care of the younger boys. When all of the other boys abandon morality when civilization abandons them, Simon clings to his, making the reader believe that his morality is not merely ingrained in him by society, but is the only truly natural goodness and morality in the book. This puts him above all of the other characters, even Ralph and Piggy, who expose their true selves and lack of total principles during their participation in the hunt dance. Simon also has common sense- he is the first person to realize that the beast is not tangent, but is a manifestation of their imaginations brought on by their natural savagery. This realization comes to him during his hallucination about the Lord of the Flies.
