            Individualism/Collectivism behavior of Christian/Non Christian.
According to Martin Lynch (2001) "50 historically predominantly Christian countries are collectivistic, but many other traditionally Christian nations are individualistic." Why? Christians these days are shifting from the church believe or not obeying the principles of the church that everybody is one and works as a group. These days Christians are individualist just thinking about themselves. To better understand their behaviors, my meaning of individualist is someone whose interest of individual takes precedence over anyone else or social group; pursuits of personal goal are placed as priority. But in the case of collectivism other people well being take precedence. .
Edward E Sampson believes individualism and collectivism plays a big part in people's experience and behavior. "Individualism and collectivism have become increasingly important cultural variables that have been found to have become significant effects on people's experiences and behavior." People's (Christians) behaviors have significantly changed because everybody including Christian is much more individualistic. Thinking of one-self and how they can get everything for themselves not thinking about anyone else. The Christian who should have a different view of this idea are more & more leaning towards individualism instead of collectivism. Christians are supposed to have "mutual responsibility" of the members & non members of the church for one another. But in the society today Christians have lost the idea that you are responsible for your neighbors. But today it seems like all people (Christians) care about are themselves & well being.
Sampson (2000) compared 2 different cultures and concluded the "West, presumed to reflect individualism and those of the East presumed to reflect collectivism" So why those the west culture reflect that of individualism when the west is predominately Christian? If you hang around Umass Campus today and try to pick out the Christian from their behavior it would be almost impossible.
