My Religion

Throughout my life I have considered myself to be a pretty religious person. I went to a catholic elementary school and I participated in the catholic beliefs with my family. I practiced these beliefs without thinking what they meant or really caring what they stood for. This continued up to about two years ago when I started to become interested in other religions.
I discovered a religion through much research that seemed to me to be what I, personally thought was best suited for, and this religion was called Buddhism. One reason I was so drawn to Buddhism was the belief of coexistence between religions and the openness of the Buddhist faith towards other cultures. This intrigued me because of my own opinions of one of the things I never liked about Catholicism, it's unwelcoming nature towards other religions. .
One of the most basic but fundamental ideas of Buddhism is the, The Four Noble Truths 1. Suffering exists. 2. Suffering arises from attachment to desires. 3. Suffering ceases when attachment to desire ceases. 4. Freedom from suffering is possible by practicing the Eightfold Path, which is. Right view, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, right contemplation.
The religion was started by a man named Siddhartha (Buddha) many years ago in India. His story is that he was a prince with many riches and was not exposed to anything but happiness. Until one day he discovered what life really contained. He than began a spiritual journey which eventually ended in his achieving of nirvana (enlightenment).
I have started to use these guidelines in my everyday life and have achieved some happiness that I attribute to it. It has helped me to become more organized and successful at school. I hope to eventually convert fully into Buddhism but for now I am satisfied following the ways and beliefs of Siddhartha (Buddha).
