Acoustic and Electric Guitars

Most aspiring guitar players face a common dilemma: Whether to choose between the acoustic or electric guitar. In making this choice, the musician should focus on the specifics: sound, convenience and image. People who approach this problem in most cases are deciding what to purchase or are looking for a way with which to go about creating music or a certain sound .
The most important issue when choosing between acoustic and electric guitar is the sound which they make. In comparison, both guitars" strings are plucked, the vibrations of the string produces the guitars" sounds. The difference between the two is the way in which the sound is amplified. An acoustic guitar amplifies itself because the guitar is hollowly built and has a hole (usually centered) which allows the sound to travel in and out of the guitar. Because it amplifies itself, the acoustic guitar is an intimate instrument. Consequently, though it is often used in smaller more compact atmospheres ,it is also not uncommon to use a microphone to further amplify the sound . Furthermore, it is very appealing for those who are not privileged to or who choose not to play with other musicians. Performing solo with an acoustic guitar is a unique form of musical expression.
In contrast, although the electric guitar is less restrictive, it is more cumbersome. For Example, to amplify an electric guitar, additional equipment, such as an amplifier and a cable to attach the two is necessary. The sound the electric guitar makes differs. When plucked and/or strummed is picked up by electronic pieces called "pick-ups", which are located in the same region as the sound hole on an acoustic guitar. The wiring on the inside of the guitar delivers what is "picked up" to the amplifier. Whereas the acoustic guitar can create an intimate mood, the electric guitar is more versatile and can be manipulated to create many moods. By simply the click of a button or the touch of foot switch a new sound can take shape.
