But separating the two is a difficult task especially after having witnessed the destruction that can be caused by so few.
Immigrants come here to live the American dream, terrorists come to destroy it. It is obvious that United States must strengthen its efforts to stop terrorists or potential terrorists from entering the country. But those efforts should not result in a wider effort to close our borders to immigrants. It is important to keep United States as open as possible to people who come here as friends, while slamming the door against enemies. It would be a shame, if we closed the door to immigrants who come here to work, save and build a better life for themselves and their families.
Throughout the centuries, immigrants have enriched America's culture, bringing foreign languages, distinct cultural customs, traditions and values. Immigrants have made numerous contributions to this land despite, or maybe even because of their diversity.
These contributions enriched our culture, advanced sciences, and affected the economic, political and social aspects of the United States. For instance, consider the arts, which are unique in America because of the influence of ethnic and cultural diversity. The entertainment industry in America is the largest in the world. This can be largely attributed to immigrants. Many major movie studios were started by immigrants or their children. One example is a polish refugee named Samuel Goldwyn, who was a founder of MGM Studios. Entertainers from the Marx Brothers to Desi Arnaz, Elizabeth Taylor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Mel Gibson, came from around the world to be part of the entertainment industry in United States. Not only has this created thousands of jobs in this country, it is also a major export industry, generating millions of dollars each year in revenue (Lehman).
Nowhere is the contribution of immigrants more apparent than in the high-technology sector.
