Former Feud

Only two months ago, I sat down and calculated a rough estimate at the cost of living in the Hampton Roads area. I finally came to the conclusion that in order to move out of my parents house and live in an apartment, I would have to work at least one full time job and one part time job, as well as have a roommate with the same income, and balance somewhere my full time college curriculum. Even with all of that, I was still factoring in my parents" help. They agreed to continue making my car, health, dental, and eye insurance payments, not to mention my car payment. With all that for an 18 year old that doesn't want a TV, a phone, or a lot of heating or air conditioning, how can a young family survive in the market these days? .
Statistically, families are not surviving. The divorce rate has risen to nearly 50% this year. The fact is, to support even a small family, both mom and dad have to work, which leaves family togetherness time at a low. Fifty years ago, the entire family sat around together playing cards and talking, the kids came home straight after school and did their homework; they even got to eat family dinners. The closest thing I have been to a family dinner in the past year is my family saving a plate of whatever they had, and leaving it in the fridge for whenever I get home from school or work. It is truer than ever before to say that in order to have a family, you need at least two incomes. Therefore, family togetherness is at an all time low. While both parents are working, children are either holed up in childcare facilities, or being watched by friends and grandparents. Children are not growing up with their families. This is believed to cause the children to lash out later down the line at peers. .
The toll is not only on children, but on relationships as well. How often can a man working a full-time job see his wife, if she is also working a full-time job? How does a healthy relationship last, much less flourish, if two people no longer spend any time together? Again, this is why so many people are getting divorced these days.
