A Vegetarian Diet for Longevity and Well-Being


             "While we ourselves are the living graves of murdered beasts, how can we expect any ideal conditions on this earth?"- These words, spoken by George Bernard Shaw, provide only a brief glimpse into what is happening in our country today.
             America has become addicted to meat consumption. Thanks to the fraudulent claims continually presented to us sponsored by the organizations which make their fortunes in the meat production industry, we have become victims to a way of eating, thus a way of life, that is likely to one day cost us our own.
             Central Idea: A vegetarian diet is an ideal diet because it does NOT require inhumane treatment of animals, it does not cause anywhere near the amount of environmental damage as a meat-based diet, and it is far superior nutritionally. Unfortunately, we have been deceived into believing otherwise.
             Preview Statement: I am going to set the record straight and tell all of you the truth about the way we have been taught to eat. .
             You deserve to be given the proper knowledge necessary for making the best possible decisions for yourselves. .
             II. BODY.
             A. Nutritional Fallacies.
             1. While it may not be commonly recognized, much of the information that is easily available to us regarding nutrition is actually provided by the companies who produce animals and animal products. The claims that they make are very often far from true.
             a. Most people have been taught that children must eat animal flesh and dairy products in order to grow up strong and healthy, and that we must.
             continue to eat these foods in order to remain healthy. The truth is that children raised on vegetarian, or even vegan diets, which contain absolutely no animal products, can get all the nutrients they need for optimum growth from a plant -based diet. On the other hand, by the first grade, many children raised on "traditional- American diets of hamburgers, hotdogs, and pizza are already showing symptoms of heart disease, the number one killer of adults.
