Prepatory Section: 6: The villain attempts to deceive his victim by using persuasion, magic or deception. .
Lord Voldemort uses magic and deception to get to Harry by putting his weak spirit into a teacher at Hogwarts named Quirrell. Voldermort takes on the archetypal shape shifter role to defeat our hero.
             Villainy/Lack: 11: The hero leaves home. . .
Harry's first call to adventure comes in the form of owl-delivered letters from his guardians in the wizarding world, that continue to arrive despite the Muggles meddling, a twist on the traditional Refusal of the Hero's Call. However, fate can no longer be denied, for it literally breaks down Harry's door. Hagrid arrives and calls Harry out of the normal world and into the special world of his destiny. Hagrid quickly becomes Harry's mentor and begins introducing him to the figures and rules of the special world. .
Villainy/Lack: 8: The villain causes harm or injury to a member of a family. .
Harry learns of his "Shadow", the evil wizard Lord Voldemort and the true secret of his past: that he was the only person Voldermort was unable of killing some an unknown reason. This proves in establishing the essential relationship between villain and hero for both the furthering of the plot and mythical aspects of the tale. In order for a villain to function effectively as the shadow archetype, it must have a personal and psychologically irreversible connection with the hero. As Carl Jung describes, "The shadow is a living part of the personality and therefore wants to live with it in some form. It cannot be argued out of existence or rationalized into harmlessness" (20). In the case of Voldemort and Harry, this is literally the case. When Harry was attacked and scarred by Voldemort, the curse implanted a small amount of Voldermort into Harry, forever binding the two. The bolt-shaped scar throbs when Voldermort is near, having intense emotion, and later creates a mental telepathy link where Harry can see through Voldermort's eyes.
