Siddhartha


            
             In Herman hesse's novel, Siddhartha. The protagonist character Siddhartha is faced with many challenges in different society. Siddhartha's state of solitude is always changing during the story. It is never the same, also he is never in the same place for a long time. Siddhartha lived with his family as a Brahmin's son (3-12). Soon after that he started living in a forest as a samenia trying to escape himself (13-24). During the end of he journey , siddhartha started living by himself as a ferryman after Vasudeva disappeared into the woods (133-137).
             During the being of the novel, Siddhartha is living with his family. He is living there as a Brahmin's son. His family is a very good teacher and a high priest in the Brahmins society (3).Siddhartha was around a lot of people as a Brahmin like his best friend Govinda, that he liked very much. He did not know what it was like to be alone. Let alone for a long time.
             So after convincing his father to let him leave and become a samenia, He began living in the forest without food, shelter, or someone to talk too. He went days on end not eating (17). A week, two weeks, or even a month before eating. During which he was trying to escape himself, to reach Nivana. Something that has not be reached by any samenia. Siddhartha loneliness was not affecting is devotion to his new religion.
             Three years was the amount of time he spent in the forest waiting, fasting, and thinking. But near the end of the novel, Siddhartha was living by a river, with a friend named Vasudeva, as a ferryman. That did not last long. For soon Vasudeva was walking into the forest and disappeared (137). Thus leaving Siddhartha all alone to transport people across the rive. That also gave him the time to listen to the river and think about his thoughts. .
             In conclusion, Siddhartha was a very wise man. But he was even wiser when living alone or with very few people around him. Like when he was living amounts the people of samsera, that is when he become a gambling, alcoholic.
