Abortion Records are not relevant, U-M says.
Timothy Johnson, had ordered that the University of Michigan give it's records on abortion. Johnson was challenging the ban on the procedure some know are partial birth but is scientifically known as intact dilation and extraction, D&X. The university had first asked the court to block all the records because it was an invasion on all of the patients privacy. On March 10, Judge Avern Cohn made a compromise for both sides, Johnson was allowed to search for cases fitting his criteria, and if he found one he would be able to get that record with all of the patient's identifying information taken off of it. After he reached any files as he wanted he would have been able to turn them over to court as proof. Johnson has said that he has not found any of the files the government had questioned about. The government has also sought after files from other universities but was turned down. A hearing in the lawsuit over the ban is scheduled for March 29 in New York.
This article deals with individual rights and primarily the right to life. Individual rights says that ever person has basic rights not created by the government, including the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. It also states that it is the government's duty to uphold these rights. Abortion deals with the right to life, does the unborn child have that right?.
Many people when arguing about abortion, not even from a religious stand point, say that the unborn child has a basic right to life that doctors are violating that right. I disagree with that one. When an abortion takes place because of the total lack of responsibility from of a woman than I do believe that the baby should have a chance to life and should not be extracted from the mother. She should deal with the consequences of her actions. Not necessarily keeping the child, because all people are not capable of provide a stable home to raise a child, but the mother should carry the child and experience pregnancy and give the child up for adoption.
