World War 2 had changed the lives of many Americans across the U. Life was transformed for many Americans on the home front as well as over seas. The peoples lives who were most greatly affected by this war were minorities and women. Weather it was woman filling in the jobs usually performed by men or women themselves joining men overseas. On the other hand the lives of African Americans and Mexican Americans were too being greatly affected by the war.
World War 2 itself brought an end to the predominantly male only in the military. Meaning that this war opened the door for women to now join the military, most of them entering in an becoming nurses. Eleanor Roosevelt herself fought for the formation of organizations that would properly acquire women in the military. This led to the formation of organizations such as the W.A.C.'s, W.A.V.E's, and the W.A.S.P.'s. Many of these organizations gave women the chance to be in the military an with theses organizations being formed women now worked as nurses, technicians, mechanics, radio operators, and secretaries. .
However the lives of women were to soon change on the home front. With roughly 12 million men serving in the military, that put pressure on the production of materials as well as women. Women because factories would now need their services to work the jobs that had been performed by men. Women now would be the largest source of labor for most factories. Most women enjoyed the freedom and wages they earned at home but now with war waging on their husbands were to be called to duty leaving the women with no choice but to work the factories to provide for their families. Roughly fifty percent of the workforce now was women, women doing the jobs that were once done by males, such work done by women gave them the nick names of "Rosie the Riveter"(875) as well as many others. The down side to the workforce of women was that many sources projected that after the war was over veterans would come back and pick up their old jobs, and once again taking over the workforce of the factories.
