At 15 years old many kids don't get the opportunity to go overseas and see the world. Luckily I got that opportunity. I had been selected for a basketball all-star team and we would play our tournaments in Paris, France and in Zurich, Switzerland. I would have to fly into La Guardia airport from Logan airport by myself. I had done flights similar to that many times, and like the previous ones this flight went smooth. I met up with the rest of my team when I got to La Guardia. There were two teams when I arrived; a boys team and a girls team. Most of the boys were from the west coast except Jimmy. Most of the girls were from the east coast which I would soon find out cause me a lot of trouble. .
When we arrived in Paris we saw all the wonderful sights including the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, and the l"Arc de Triumph. We had played a couple games through out that week and we played very well beating France and Germany. The next week we arrived in Switzerland where we were to play in a 4 day tournament featuring teams from France, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Yugoslavia, Australia, and Spain. The competition was extremely high, but we pulled out with the silver medal. We had lost miserably to the Yugoslavian team, but we were happy just to be there. We wrapped up the rest of our travel with a awards ceremony, and then we were on our way home. We were all happy (the girls" team had won the gold medal) and we couldn't wait and get home to show off our new "souvenirs". .
We arrived at the JFK airport in New York at 6:00 pm. All of the boys except for Jimmy had left to catch their flights back to the west coast. 4 of the girls had gone with the other boys because they lived on the west coast as well. It was Jimmy and I; along with 7 other girls. We had been escorted to our terminal by an adult chaperone, but she soon left thereafter. We had a flight to catch at 6:45 so we didn't have much time to do much of anything.
