In my opinion, it should be legal, but 3 out of 4 Americans feel that it should not be legalized. The President and the majority of Americans believe that marriage is defined as a union between a man and a woman. Are they saying that love has boundaries and can only be shared by a man and a woman? We should remember that as late as the "70's, 12 States still had laws forbidding marriage between whites and other races, which carried a year's jail sentence. Hard to believe isn't it? .
Many religious groups have tired to turn this into a religious argument. There are many homosexuals that are Christians. Do religious groups have the right to say who is allowed to be a Christian and who is not? .
I have seen deep love between a man and a woman, in my grandparents. However, I have also seen a very passionate, deep, everlasting love between the same sex. My god parent's happen to be two men. They have more love than most straight couples I have seen and are the most wonderful people you"ll ever meet. They have been together for 17 years. One is a doctor and the other is a homemaker. .
I don't think it is far that they can't be married to enjoy the benefits of a married couple. They have to purchase a separate health insurance policy to cover my one uncle, which is very expensive. What is also troubling to me is, if one uncle dies, the other is not entitled to collect any benefits, that he should be entitled to. Here is a couple, who are life partners and there is no reason why the surviving one should not be able to collect benefits such as social security. .
This is not just simply a fight to be married. Homosexuals have been living together and taking vows on their own for years and will continue to do so. This is more of a fight for rights to be recognized as loving individuals that want to take care of one another, in exactly the same way as a man and a woman, who are married. .
