Othello

" It is thought abroad that twixt my sheets he's done my office". There have been rumours going around that Othello has been sleeping with Iago's wife Emilia. Iago ahs the idea of trying to start an affair with Desdemona but he knows this will not work because she is too faithful to Othello.
During scene three, Iago purposely decides to make Othello jealous. He does this by convincing Othello to believe that Cassio and Desdemona are having an affair. He decides to drop false hints to confuse Othello. At one point he quotes "Ha! I like not that". This after he notices Desdemona and Cassio walking together. He is trying to suggest that both Desdemona and Cassio are "playing around" behind his back.
He also quotes "honest my lord" here he is making out that he knows something but is baffled at the same time as if Othello is making no sense.
Iago quotes again "beware my lord of jealousy, it is the green eyed monster which doth, make the meat it feeds". Here the audience would know Othello is being weaved into the final step of Iago's plan. Iago is telling Othello that he should not become jealous because it will ruin his lifestyle. But in fact what he really hopes is that Othello does become jealous. Othello has no idea about this. This is an example of dramatic irony because he knows Desdemona is not having an affair but his quotes suggest that she is. .
In act 3, Scene 3 the audience would probably feel sympathy for Othello. This is explained in my next quote. " I do love thee and when I love thee not chaos come again". In this quote Othello is saying he has great love for Desdemona and even if something was to come along and damage their love, the chaos would never come again. .
Frustration would also be involved here. Othello sees Iago as a trusting person. We see this in his words". "I know thou art full of love and honesty". Here he is saying that he knows Iago is a very "trusting" and "loving" person and that he would "never betray him.
