Club Drugs


             The term "club drugs" was coined to classify all of the drugs that are prevalent in the clubs, concerts, "raves" and all night parties. The most prevalent "club drugs" are GHB (gammahydroxybutyrate or gammahydroxybutric acid), ecstacy, ketamine, rohypnol, in addition to cocaine, marijuana and hallucinagens such as LSD, mushrooms, poppers and 2C-B. 2C-B is considered both a psychedelic and an entactogen. "Entactogen" is a term used by psychiatrists to classify Ecstasy (MDMA) and related drugs. It literally means "touching within.".
             Common Street Names.
             Slang terms for GHB include grievous bodily harm, Georgia home boy, liquid ecstacy, liquid x, somotomax, and scoop. Slang for ecstacy include E, X, XTC, Adam and Eve. Slang terms for Ketamine include K, Special K, Ket, Vitamin K, Kit Kat. Slang for rohypnol are roofies, and R-2, rophies, roaches and the date rape drug. .
             Effects That Cause People To Use .
             People often use "club drugs" because it gives them energy, heightens their senses, provides them with a euphoric effect or "high" and can make the user feel relaxed, happy and sociable. People who use ketamine at lower doses report it has a mild, dreamy feeling similar to nitrous oxide. Users report feeling floaty and slightly outside their body. Numbness in the extremities is also common. Higher doses produce a hallucinogenic (trippy) effect, and may cause the user to feel very far away from their body, and tremors. .
             Negative Effects Of Club Drugs.
             Coma and seizure can occur following the use of GHB with a metamphetamine, there appears to be an increased risk of seizure. Combining use with other drugs such as alcohol can result in nausea and difficulty breathing. GHB may also produce withdrawal effects such as anxiety, insomnia, sweating and tremors. Ecstacy is a stimulant and increases blood pressure and heart rate and can lead to heart or kidney failure. It can damage the neurons in your brain and impair your senses, coordination, memory and judgement.
