It was my freshmen year in high school when I first entered through the doors of my French I class. Walking into the bright sun-filled classroom I remember hearing a bunch of annoying, immature, ignorant first year students new to high school. You can't count me out of that group! My first impression when looking at all of these students was who am I going to sit next to? Will it be the big macho football players? No, I really don't play any sports. How about the beautiful cheerleaders? No, I am a shy kind of guy. What about the outcasts, like the punk rockers? No, I want to keep my own sense of style, so the only thing I came up with was to just sit by myself and just wait until someone came and sat next to me.
While sitting in my rock-hard chair, I waited and nothing happened. Nobody came to sit next to me, but that was okay, I did not need anyone to sit next to me. As the class started, minding my own business and listening to the teacher jabber on and on about what the rest of the year was going to be like, these two guys tapped me on the shoulder. As I began to turn around to see who they were, I remember having this feeling in the pit of my stomach, asking myself what was I getting myself into? Do they want to be friends, or do they want to make fun of me? Looking into their eyes and whispering to them in a curious tone, I asked them, "What do you want?" They replied with a " What is your name?" "Where did you come from?" And an entire line of questions. Oh, here it goes I may have found a start to the new life of the new world. I said "Lyle", in a calm relaxing soft voice and turned around.
After class I met up with the two guys, Mike and Brandon. We hung out all day and I explained to them where I came from and how I moved to this high school. Next thing I knew I had to get home. .
The three of us became instant best friends. We hung out all the time, sat next to each other in class, but most important of all we eventually started up a band.
