John F. Kennedy, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln

            
             Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln were all presidents who served our country at different times. Through the years that they were president, they dealt with many different types of occasions where they had to step up and defend their country. The three of them each have their own presidential speech which have left and amazing impact on all the people of our nation. The style of each speech reflects the occasion for which it was written.
             Abraham Lincoln delivered "The Gettysburg Address", one of his greatest speeches, at the dedication of the Gettysburg National Cemetery in 1863. Lincoln speaks of the civil war in his speech. He talks about how the young men and women devoted their lives to our nation for us. In his speech he uses very religious terms to describe what he is saying. He uses such words as consecrated, which means sacred, hallow, which means holy and he uses the word dedicate which can be used religiously to mean "to devote to the worship of a divine being", the divine being in this case is God. Lincoln speaks as if he were under the influence of God. He speaks as if he were a very holy and humble man. Lincoln also uses a bit of allusion in the Gettysburg Address. "Four score and seven year ago- is taken straight from the bible; he uses that statement to begin his speech. Right from the beginning of his speech the readers know he is linked to God when he talks. Lincoln was trying to be a very peaceful man asking the people not to forget those who have passed away for us and to acknowledge what they have done for us and to keep their spirits alive by finishing what they have started for us.
             Franklin Delano Roosevelt gave the Pearl Harbor Address to the House of Representatives after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. In his speech he makes the situation much more badly than it already is. He also makes the speech very dramatic. In his speech he makes the statement "a date which will live in infamy" which becomes a very famous quote.
