Just in Case

            Superstitions make people do strange things that they would not normally do. There is no evidence behind superstitions, yet people always knock on wood and avoid walking under ladders "just in case" something bad will happen. There are millions of different superstitions that for some reason, people believe. Some superstitions are things that bring good luck, and others are things that bring bad luck. Even if there are people who don't believe in superstitions, they might have a certain lucky object that they always keep with them or a certain routine that they always do for luck; these things are all superstitions. When people design buildings they usually do not put a 13th Floor because of superstitions about the number 13 being bad luck, yet we all know that even if they skip the number 13, the 14th floor is the 13th floor from the bottom. Although superstitions are not proven, people would rather not take the risk of something bad happening to them, and so they avoid opening umbrellas indoors and are cautious on Friday the 13th.
             On the other hand there are people who do not believe superstitions at all. Superstitions could just be something that someone made up one day yet the affect the lives of millions of people everyday. Instead of trying to think of a logical reason for why certain things happen, people tend to blame superstitions. Religion is another type of superstition although some do not realize it. Religion is similar to superstition because they are both things that people believe although they do not have any evidence to prove that it is true. When people act strangely because of superstitions or religion it is because they would rather take the risk of something bad not happening to them. Superstitions will always be unexplainable but there will always be people that believe in them and people that follow them "just in case.".
