Marijuana's Effects: More Than Munchies

The article that I found was a review of the research findings about marijuana and its affects on body and brain in early 2002. The article says that the scientists learn that drug, which estimated 70 million Americans have at least tried, may be highly addictive to a small percentage of those who use it. The included charts show the rise in marijuana use among students, and rise in New Yorkers admitted to treatment whose primary drug of abuse is marijuana.
As the text book mentioned in marijuana section, the main active ingredient called, THC or delta-9-trans-tetrahydrocannabinol was the big problem in our body. The THC is in similer shape as endocannabinoids, which is the ingredient of cannabis. Dr. Wilson believes that THC molecules help lay down new memories by strengthening the connections between nerve cells, but when it is overused, forgetfullness occurs because when brain is full of cannabinoids by marijuana, our brain system tries to remember everything we do and when it is overwhelmed, it forgets everything. .
I learned that a molecule called, tetrahydrocannabinol, is very harmful to our bodies, but I would liked to know how it breaks down the brain cells and why it breaks our memory. I also wanted to know that if marijuana only effects on brain. .
I chose this article for the first current event because even though there were many topics I could choose, the marijuana is one of the biggest problem in my age teenagers. I personally never tried or never going to try in my future, but I see many people or friends doing marijuana. I tried to read the articles on marijuana so may be I can tell them what are the results from it. Before I read this article and the textbook, I really didn't know the effects from marijuana, so whenever I tried to force my friends to quit it, I couldn''t give a good reason for them to quit. I don't know 100% about marijuana, but I think I can tell them why they should quit now.
