' can be translated into "ÎaÇ »ÊÇ
• ∘ Õ µ µÄ ¶ÊÖ", "ÌÖ ª µu »á ¶ÎaÇÕa'Ñù". The speaking language and short conversations in this fiction are what we should pay attention to while translating to achieve the goal of faithfulness, expressiveness and elegance.
Second, the content of this story is based on the children's thoughts that are simple and kind of nave. To make possible that at least the whole translation faithful, we must make sure to get the idea of the children's thought. .
The third and fourth difficulties I have in translating, that are words and sentences, are the main problems I met. Some words can not be translated directly into Chinese meanings, which we can find in the dictionary. Words have different meanings in different contents, especially in speaking language. E.g. "Thinking I could beat a grown man with a knife and torch was just crazy." (Î ª× ¼ ∘ÄÜ'òÜ » ¸ÖÊÖÄa×Å µ ¶× ∘à »Ñ µÄ'oÈÄÇ ¼òÖ ±ÊÇÃëÌ ¿ ª) The word "crazy" was translated into "ÃëÌ ¿ ª" to make the sentence more expressive. It sounds better than the word "eÃ" , which is the direct meaning. But to look up the dictionary is also necessary. When I met the sentence "And I knew we were doomed." (ÎÖ ª µÎaÇ×
• ¶ã' ªÊ ÜÃ), I thought that the word "doom" means "dead". Without looking up the dictionary, I made a wrong translation. Another example of the importance of using dictionary is "I had the desperate idea that"(ÎÃÃ'Õ µÄÄÃ). At first, I thought that "desperate" means " ¾Ã¸Ãû µÄ". But I ignored another meaning of this word, which is "'' µÄ". .
Sentences are also big difficulties for me. It seems quite often that I could not translate the whole sentence though I had no new word in it.
