A Struggle

They isolate her from their society because she can't interact with a people that have greater value. When she fought back against John she wasn't just fighting because he was bothering her and being rude. She was fighting for respect and even just to be noticed by Mrs. Reed. Jane was socially isolated and when John started to do terrible things to him, she felt like she had to fight back. This scene shows the fist time Jane has ever fought back against the rich and powerful Reed's.
Fighting against John was the first time she allowed her true feelings to be relinquished on the Reeds. However, she continues by letting her true feelings about Mrs. Reed come out after the meeting with Mr. Brocklehurst. Ere I had finished this reply, my soul began to expand, to exult, with the strangest sense of freedom, of triumph, I ever felt." (Bronte 37) While she is telling Mrs. Reed how much of a bad person, and she wanted was for Mrs. Reed to be kind to her. Jane starts to feel a sense of liberty, she now feels free, not afraid of the consequences of saying this to Mrs. Reed. Instead of being told that she is going to school she demands Mrs. Reed to send her to school. We could compare this outrage to a person confronting his bully; how she out lashed at Mrs. Reed she has become a free person. The battle started with John and now has ended with Mrs. Reed, with Jane being granted to move to Lowood and attend school. Being sent to Lowood is her victory prize at face value, however she really won emotionally with achieving the thought of being free.
"No; I should not like to belong to poor people,"(Bronte 25) When Jane was asked by Mr. Lloyd if she would like to live with her real family if they were poor. She replies "No"; this answer is quite difficult to understand because Jan always complains about being an inferior. If she lived with her relations she would be look at like an equal, she might not have money but she would have the respect and the liberty to do what she wants.
