Gilgamesh

Why where women in the story of Gilgamesh very important when at the same time he thought he didn"t need anyone. The book was filled with many different roles of women starting from the most unimportant, like the prostitutes, and was mixed with the very important goddesses that made their own choices. Some of the women that were noticed in the journey of Gilgamesh are Ninsun, Ishtar, and Siduri; the woman in the story made Gilgamesh stronger throughout the story. .
One of the most important women in Gilgameshes life was Ninsun. Ninsun was a minor goddess and also was Gilgameshes mother. She would try to give him her own strength and power by giving Gilgamesh a lot of direction and advice. Ninsun was the minor goddess of wisdom; she knew a lot about almost everything in the world at that time period. Ninsun also could interpret dreams of Gilgamesh and the people in Uruk. When Gilgamesh was having dreams about a star and an ax that he could not move, Ninsun told him it meant that he would meat a equal. An example of this dream and her interpretation of it is when Ninsun tells Gilgamesh "Your equal is the star /which fell, as if a sing from Heaven/Had been sent which is too heavy/But which you will try to lift/And drive away, and fail"(19). Ninsun's interpretation of his dream foreshadows that he will meet Enkidu. It appears that the author is trying to tell the reader that Ninsun is one of the most important women in the story because of her wisdom and ability to know what Gilgameshes dreams are. .
Ishtar was one of the important woman in the book of Gilgamesh. She was the goddess of love, fertility, and of war. Ishtar shows the temper and emotions of the women. Gilgamesh sees Ishtar as a woman that is very moody and disruptive. In the story Ishtar appears infront of Gilgamesh to tell him that gods were mad at him for killing Humbaba; she told him if he married her, she could make them forget about blaming him for Humbabas death.
