Love


             "Love, in all it's numerous forms and disguises, is one of our most powerful emotions. Although celebrated as a source of great joy, love is also the cause of many of life's conflicts, sorrows, and tragedies". Love is one of the most powerful emotions one person can experience. It can take over someone's body, heart and soul. Love is a feeling that should be celebrated and praised. Yet , at times, it may also cause problems. The power of love can create impacts upon people, in which they have no control on the effects. Two plays, "A Doll's House", by Henrik Ibsen, and "Antigone", by Sophocles, illustrate the basis behind this quote. .
             "Antigone", is a tragic play that takes place in Thebes. The sons of the great Oedipus, Eteocles and Polynices, have just killed each other in the act of war. Their Uncle, Creon, has now gained the title of king of Thebes. Antigone has learned of her brothers death, and has come to a crucial decision. Polynices died a traitor, and it was forbidden for his body to be buried. Antigone's love for her brother started a tragic ending to a classic play. .
             Antigone finds it appalling that his body will be left for the vultures to feast on. .
             She plans to bury her brother's body. Polynices is her blood, her brother and her family. Antigone understands if she is caught, she will be killed. "I"ll bury him myself " (1032), She tells her sister Ismene. "And even if I die in the act, that death will be a glory. I"ll lie with the one I love and loved by him" (1032). Antigone does not care about the outcome of this crime. She loves her brother dearly, and wants him to receive a proper burial. .
             "Although celebrates as a source of great joy, love is also the cause of many of life's conflicts, sorrows, and tragedies". Love has brought great tragedy to the characters in Antigone. Antigone has been caught burying her brother's body. Creon has sentenced her to be stoned to death. Creon's son, Haemon, is Antigones husband.
