The Issue of Abortion

In order to discuss an important issue such as abortion, we must first understand what it means. Abortion is the spontaneous or artificially induced expulsion of a human fetus within the first twelve weeks of pregnancy, before it is viable. In other words, it is when a woman has tissue removed from her uterus, hence causing a miscarriage. An abortion can be performed for any number of reasons, but mainly it is by either choice or for therapeutic reasons. If a woman has a therapeutic abortion, the reason is due to medical issues. .
Abortion in today's society has become a very political issue. You are either pro-choice or pro-life, and there does not seem to be a happy medium. Pro-life activists believe that every child conceived should be born. They also believe abortion is murder. On the other hand, pro-choice activists feel life does not begin at conception but with birth. The pro-choice activist emphasizes on freedom and self-determination, that way you do not have to look at what is being chosen or the actual choice. Although, new studies are showing that most Americans, even those who support abortion, do not like abortion, but accept it as a "necessary evil" because it helps women. It seems to be that focusing on the "choice" element allows woman to avoid the reality of abortion while remaining politically correct. .
When we look back at the Roe V. Wade decision, it was either one of the best or worst ideas ever. Roe v. Wade is the historic Supreme Court decision overturning a Texas interpretation of abortion law and making abortion legal in the United States. The Roe v. Wade decision held that a woman, with her doctor, could choose abortion in earlier months of pregnancy without restriction, and with restrictions in later months, based on the right to privacy. When Regan was once asked about the Roe V. Wade decision, he responded by saying the decision was based off the historical context which showed it was a logical decision at that time.
