Slave Morality


            Slavery was a major issue in the United States during the pre civil war and civil war eras. In the southern states, their economic stability revolved around cash crops. Some cash crops include tobacco, rice, and cotton. Slaves were used for hard labor out in the fields of farms and plantations to keep the southern economy progressing. The majority of slaves however, were treated harshly. People questioned the morality of slavery because if their inhumane way of life . A number of people thought of slavery as immoral and unjust. Others thought of slavery as moral, and necessary for their way of life. The validity of people's views and arguments was also questionable. Slavery was thought to be moral by some people, immoral by others, and there is some validity in the argument of slavery being immoral. .
             Slavery was thought be an immoral brainchild by many people. Slavery was the cause of suffering if many African Americans. Slavery was robbing them of life, and their freedom. In viewpoint 10A there is a line that reads, .

             Slave owners thought of slaves of as property, not actual human beings. Slaves as we know are people too, they have goals and desires just like the rest of us. They have the right to be free, and enjoy every aspect of life. Slaves were deprived of the things that make life worth living. Slaves had nothing to live for. The immoral part of their lives was that were forced to work, not paid very well if at all, and they were beaten. They had no right to liberty, or other outward comforts of life, which is immoral by all means. .
             Slaves were bought and sold like property. They were not treated as valued as some other possessions as an excerpt from viewpoint 10A reads, .
