             For those who know however, it has been labelled with a variety of complimentary phrases but the one which has stuck, and is known throughout the Far East is "The Pearl of the Orient." It is situated 2 miles off the North West coast of Peninsular of Malaysia. In the centre of the island is the highest hill known as the Western Hill and is about 838 meters high. The Hill is residential and being served by a funicular railway and is highly recommended as a place for those who wish to escape from the heat and also for its magnificent views over the island and the mainland. The fact that Penang is the home of many different racial groups, give rise to both eating and things to be seen from the everyday way of life to the special festivals of different races. Talking about food in Penang; delicious Muslim food for example satay, ayam rendang, Indian food for example nasi kandar, mee goreng, Chinese food for example wan tang mee, char koay tiau, western food for example Kentucky Fried Chicken, Macdonald and many others can be bought easily and cheaply all around Penang.You will find the people are friendly and ever-willing to help the tourist.The city of Georgetown is serviced by a first class system of roads which circumnavigates the whole island.Well what about the transport network in Penang, Siew Ching :.

             As regard to transportation, Penang airport at Bayan Lepas is serviced by 9 airlines with frequent services. The main railway from Singapore to Bangkok runs to Butterworth which is on the mainland just opposite Penang and to which there is a frequent ferry service, for the carriage of passengers and cars.
