"Perspectives of the same event"

             "Perspectives of the same event".
People are very different and look at things very differently. Each perspective is reflected differently in each of these pieces of literature, even though they are all about the same event. The pieces of literature I chose are two by Abraham Lincoln, "The Gettysburg Address" and "Letter to Mrs. Bixby", and one by Robert E. Lee, "Letter to His Son" and finally, Chief Joseph, "I Will Fight No More Forever".
The first piece of literature by Abraham Lincoln is the "Gettysburg Address". Lincoln was addressing the crowd at the Dedication of the Gettysburg National Cemetery on November 19, 1863. Lincoln does not necessarily want this war to be going on, but he does not want what all these soldiers have died for to be in vain. He feels how the country can pay them back and honor them is to protect our "new birth of freedom" and "that government of the people, by the people, for the people shall not parish". The country could not possibly give a greater sacrifice then these men have already done. Therefore, we can just protect what it stands for and what they died for. The other piece I chose by Lincoln was "Letter to Mrs. Bixby". Written November 21, 1864 By Abraham Lincoln to Mrs. Bixby, a mother who had lost all of her five sons in the war. Again, Lincoln shows the up most respect for the soldiers and that they have given the ultimate gift to their country, which were their lives. He Talks about them dying "gloriously on the field of battle". He thinks this is the ultimate thing a person can do, and is thankful for the soldiers doing it. He again speaks of the sacrifice being done for the freedom of the country. He tells Mrs. Bixby how sorry he is but she should be proud of the way they died and that it was for the country's freedom.
The second piece of literature is by Robert E. Lee called "Letter to His Son". Robert E. Lee liked writing to his seven children often so they would "follow in his tracks".
