BlackPlanetLove.com asks subscribers to answer several essay questions such as "What is you biggest complaint about dating?" It also asks questions about your physical appearance, habits, occupation and salary and what qualities you find desirable in a partner. Since I am a member of BlackPlanetLove.com and BlackPlanet.com, I will use the site as an example of how the average dating service works. First, you must become a member. Black Planet allows limited access for members without a fee, but for $20 per month a person can receive unlimited access to view and contact other members. Next, you create a profile by answering a series of basic questions. What are your interests, where do you live, how much do you make, do you smoke, etc Then you answer approximately ten essay questions, making the answers as short or long as you like. Then, Black Planet also has an option to create your own web page. Your web page includes some of you basic profile information, and you can add pictures, graphics, and a personal message where you are allowed to say anything you want. After all this, you are ready to start looking for you soul mate! All you have to do is type in what state, age range, and sex you would like to view, and a list of all members is given to you.
One of the things I like most about online dating is that you can be picky about who you meet. When it comes to the traditional dating scene, people have a tendency to act on instinct or even impulse. Just because a man approaches a woman at a bar, she does not even have to talk to him, but because she is there alone she may be tempted to talk, flirt, or even go home with him for lack of no one better to be with. Online dating allows a person to look at what someone has to offer, take a step back and ask themselves if this is someone they want to spend their time with. Of course, this is all assuming that the person on the other end of the internet is telling the truth.
