Obesity



             Obesity is a chronic disease with a strong family connection that is past down throughout the generations. Most do not remove themselves from this cycle, causing future health conditions on the rest of the family. "Obesity can increase one's risk of high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, stroke, gallbladder disease and cancer of the breast, prostate and colon."(American Obesity Association, What is Obesity?).
             In 199,1 the A.O.A examined the costs of fifteen conditions related to obesity. They were as follows: arthritis, breast cancer, heart disease, liver disease, lower back pain, and many more. The total cost of the health care provided came to $102.2 billion in a 1991 study (A.O.A, Costs of Obesity) just imagine what the costs would be now!.
             Being thin/slim and well toned is everyone's dream, but the one's it effects most are women, they become very conscious of how they look in public. They will shy away from doing outside things if they feel they are not up-to-date on certain physical looks, rather than on what is more important. "Fat is a social disease, and fat is a feminist issue."(Orbach, 6) Although most women are very aware of how they look the key is they wish to be thinner and the key to that is a good diet and lots of exercise and vice versus.
             Showing up to work and walking to your desk you notice there is a box of donuts on a desk sitting in the middle of your office. You take a look at it and decide that one donut won't hurt, but guess what it will ruin your streak of not eating that is high in calories, not realizing the potential danger of downing it. This is how obesity is, you see what you want to eat and become a compulsive eater which is definitely not good any many ways, but in another sense it is the also very good if you haven't had anything to eat.
             Family and friends are a huge factor in the gain/loss of overweight persons". If one is encourage by a family member to quit this eating habit and get life back on hand, it can really make a difference in someone's life with just a little kick.
