Nurse

I had the opportunity to interview a registered practical nurse (RPN), who has worked in this profession for over 20 years. She has had many different experiences, and I really enjoyed hearing some. She currently works at Lakeridge Health Oshawa, in mostly general surgeries. She also performs all the basic RPN care, for example she does dressings, medications, hygiene care, suctioning and orthopedics. She has also taken additional courses during her career to an able herself to do more. For instance, some of the additional courses she has taken were on medications, patient assessment and complex dressings. She told me that when ever there is an opportunity for her to learn more she takes it. She encouraged me to do the same because it will open more "doors" for my future career.
This nurse has many ways of promoting health and healing in her daily work. For example, she treats each client as an individual when assessing their personal needs. She shows her clients that she is not only cares about their physical needs but also their emotional needs. After the nurses assessment she will set a goal with her client, the goal is usually aimed for the client to recover to what they were like before their surgery or how they use to be before their illness. .
The impressions I got from the nurse were very good. I felt that she portrayed confidence during the interview and knew a lot about how the client's she cared for can feel, and she always seem to keep that in consideration. She told me about the years of experience she has had, and I felt that she was very knowledgeable about her work. The nurse I interviewed demonstrates her caring in her work; I could just tell by the way she talked about it. She talked about how she not only cares about the client, but also the client's friends and family. She always makes sure that she explains the procedure and possible outcomes to her clients. She also will explain all that to the client's family and friends when appropriate.
