Why I Want to Be a Nurse

            I watched my grandmother come home every day after working long hours at the hospital totally exhausted. I always wondered what made her get up every morning and do the same thing over and over again. My grandma was a nurse who made a difference in peoples care and in their lives. She gave people the attention they needed when they were in the hospital for one reason or another. .
             When I was in high school, I was able to choose a career to study for a day. This involved going to work with a person in that field of work. I chose to go to work with my grandma. It was more about seeing why she keeps going to work every day more than it was the career I wanted to study. On that day, I learned why grandma got out of bed and went to work with a smile on her face. .
             Nursing was not just a job. It was a career that allowed her to meet patients that needed her. It was a career that allowed her to meet with families and offer them hope. As I followed my grandma through the day, I realized that I wanted to be a nurse. I wanted to make a difference for people. I wanted to see the smile on someone's face when I helped him or her with their every day needs. I wanted to make a difference and feel good about myself. .
             I wanted to become a nurse so that I to could come home at night knowing that I was helping people. Becoming a nurse is rewarding. It is challenging at times, but when you see a patient able to go home with his or her family, you have a sense of pride that you were there to help them get better. .
             Why I want to be a nurse? Because my grandma showed me why she loved her job so much. She allowed me to see the rewards of helping people and being involved in the care of people that need you. I saw the look in people's eyes as they looked at my grandma for love and support. That is what I want to experience. I want to make a difference in someone's life. .
