Eminem--Trials and Triumphs

With this verse: "These ideas are nightmares for white parents, whose worst fear is a child with dyed hair and who likes earrings like whatever they say has no bearing, it's so scary in a house that allows no swearing," Eminem addresses the problems surrounding a household which imprisons a young teen from blatantly expressing himself. His lyrics stress the ongoing battle between kids and their parents; specifically the inability of the parents to accept their children as independents. Eminem's central argument suggests that not accepting a person for who he is will be detrimental to the person being misunderstood and that trauma can inevitably be reflected as dangerous, violent behavior in society. He does not entirely promote violence in this piece, but rather strives to accompany his offensive lyrics with a valuable argument. .
Eminem fervently opposes the scheme of powerful public figures and ignorant parents to keep the youth of America mindless. "But then these critics crucify you, journalists try to burn you, fans turn on you, attorneys all want a turn at you." In this example, Eminem expresses the struggles he faces himself when he attempts to speak his mind. Experiencing the same kind of oppression from his mother while growing up and presently battling critics and political figures who dispute his every move, Eminem speaks from his own experiences and the truth of his lyrics becomes evident as Eminem becomes repeatedly emotional throughout his songs; which leads the incorporation of his infamous violent lyrics: "That's why these prosecutors wanna convict me, strictly just to get me off of these streets quickly Its all political, if my music is literal, and I"m a criminal how the f*ck could I raise a little girl? I couldn't. I wouldn't be fit to. You"re full of sh*t too, Guerrera, that was a fist that hit you!" .
Much of the artistic value and many important messages of Eminem's music are lost in the turmoil of all the controversy surrounding his intentions.
