A view on gay marriage

Who would have thought that when asked to pick a topic to write about I would have picked this one? There were many different topics to choose from yet when I saw this one I almost instantly could take a side and could argue my feelings on this subject. The topic I am talking about is "Gay Marriage". I chose the topic of gay marriage because I feel it is an important topic going on in society today. There has been a lot of controversy over it not only in the media, but also in our everyday conversations. You always hear someone making a snide comment about a gay or lesbian person. People even go as far as saying that the purple telly tubby is gay, only because he is purple, and anyone who has rainbow colors is a homosexual. Seriously its getting a little ridiculous and though I am not particularly taking a side on this issue to argue today, I am going to express to you what I know about this issue so far as it stands, and how I have come to believe, what I believe, about this subject. .
I first heard about gay marriage about four years ago while I was still in high school. It was a really big issue in the news and continues to be debated in our society everyday. The only real thing I know without doing any research is what I have heard people comment, and what I have seen in the media. You would think that with all the negative things I have heard on this issue my feelings would be different. I am in the minority as a heterosexual who feels homosexual marriage should be legal.
I believe my biggest influence on this issue would have to be my parents. My parents have brought me up to understand that no matter how someone in society is different from you they are still a person. This is America the melting pot of the world. I have grown up in an environment where it is ok to think for you, and to accept people as they are. .
Telling people they cannot get married because they are of the same sex is like telling a fat person they cannot marry a skinny person, or like a white person not being allowed to marry a black person.
