Cliques: A Social Heirarchy

It is only natural that they are going to form a group of friends. However, often these groups do not remain diverse, and the problem arrives when they become exclusive. Exclusive groups are those that tend to associate with only their close friends, and disregard all outsiders. Therefore, any exclusive group, if maintained for a long period of time, becomes destructive to the identity of those people within the group, as well as those people outside the clique. .
Cliques begin harmless enough: they are just a group of people that share a common interest. However, as these cliques are preserved over time, they begin to show their true nature. They become such a closely associated group that eventually uniformity among members develops. It starts with people changing the way they look, or the way they dress. This is already a loss of individual thought. However, this is only the beginning, because as this uniformity continues, the morals of these people get destroyed along with their old wardrobe. It truly does become a warped game of follow the leader until everyone is looking and behaving exactly like everyone else. Still, this is not the end, for now the people in the group are forced to constantly maintain this image. If they choose to step outside what has come to be known as the "excepted", they subject themselves to ridicule from the other members of the group. This especially becomes a problem if a member cannot afford the same clothes or luxuries as others. This member becomes the outcast of the group. Now the clique is not only disapproving of people outside the clique, but also manages to belittle their own friends. Not wanting to lose their stature as well as their feeling of belonging, the "outcast" begins to do whatever he or she can to fit in. This is when the person's attitude on many ethical issues changes along with their clothes and drinking and doing drugs becomes such a major problem.
