Prison officials cannot take out allegations in which unlawful treatment was imposed. Material that is being sent between inmates and attorneys should be treated like court directed mail. This is the right of the inmate until this right is abused. The prison officials must provide inmates legal assistance and the proper material to make a complaint. Also a law library should be available to inmates so that they can keep current on cases and decisions made by the courts.
Inmates have the write of mail communication. Many prisons consider this a "privilege,"" but it is still a right. Prison officials must deliver outgoing and incoming mail to and from a prisoner. The material in the mail cannot be deleted unless it is a showing of clear and present danger. Due to the fact that inmates write in code to outsiders about escaping the prison officials have the right to look over letters to make sure this is not being discussed. Inmates must also write all letters in English, that way if there is any talk of suicide or any other matters that could be dangerous to the prisoner it can be easily detected. Prison officials do have the right to regulate the entry of contraband. The mail can be opened and checked for materials such as hair pieces, or drugs that are in the paper or stamps on the letters. Also the letters may be checked by fluoroscope inspection without opening them. The mail can be checked only for safety and not content. .
Freedom of Religion is the most protected right in the states. Everyone is guaranteed this right and most likely it will not be singed upon. The First Amendment states "freedom of religion,"" which has two rights: "prohibits the government from creating a national religion, and the government can not prohibit the free exercise of religion practices- (Anderson 56). An inmate has the right to exercise any religious beliefs and practices he may have as long as it is not a burden of security.
