Thermos is a fairly successful company that develops well designed products. Thermos develops products such as lunch bottles, grills, and their most famous product of them all thermos bottles. The thermos bottles have played a major role in the success; these bottles are so successful because of the vacuum technology. The vacuum technology found in the thermos bottle main purpose is to keep cold items cold and hot items hot. Of course to have a successful business you must have great marketing skills.
An example of great marketing skills would be the actions Thermos took to market a new grill. One of the first actions that was taken by the company is that it went from a bureaucratic firm to a firm that is arranged of multipurpose self-managed teams. The purpose of the management teams was to market the grill to a specific customer type or group. This was a good approach to marketing because the customer group is being closely examined. The management team's objective was to study grill users, see how they lived, and what they are looking for in a grill. Of course the new management team accomplished their task because they talked to the grill market. Also leadership of the management team was rotated when certain areas of expertise were needed. For example, if some computer issues came up the manager with expertise in that area would handle it.
Self-managed multifunctional teams can have a positive affect on a marketing department and throughout the company. More companies should try self-managed multifunction teams because of what it could do for the company. These teams could hit different customer groups when the company is in the process of developing a product. Talking to the customer groups that the product is aimed at will give the company free ideas that will greatly improve the product, and of course when a product caters to the consumers needs there will be more profit.
