Health Canada

Many of us live day to day, making a conscious effort to live a healthy lifestyle, however we still undertake certain health behaviours that are putting our future health at risk. Health behaviours are behaviours that people undertake that either enhance or compromise their health. A person is in good health if they have managed a good balance between their mental, physical and social well being. We know that there are certain health behaviours we should be practicing to enhance or maintain good health throughout our lives, but how many of us are actually fulfilling these? I try to lead a healthy life by involving myself in physical activities and eating healthy foods, however, I have my faults and do give in to unhealthy behaviours such as binge drinking, keeping irregular sleeping patterns and eating convenience foods.
Engaging in physical activity is important for me. I have grown up in a very physically active family, and I love to be involved in team sports as well as dance and jogging. I am now in my fourth year of post-secondary and I have noticed myself slowly getting less active. Though I still feel as though I am physically fit, I am not at the level I have been at and enjoyed in the past. I plan on involving myself in intramurals and to start jogging more often. I like to keep active because it makes me feel like I am involved in a healthy behaviour and provides me with a way to deal with stress. These activities are what I enjoy doing and I believe that they are helpful in enhancing my health. .
Eating well is a very important aspect of maintaining and improving health. I eat healthy foods most of the time because I know the benefits of eating well, which include a lower chance of heart disease and other heart related diseases. Eating healthy means eating foods that include the four food groups (dairy, fruit and vegetables, grains and meat) and not eating too little or exessively.
