Waves of the Sky

I've always enjoyed walking my dog late at night because you get a feeling of total isolation. Walking along the sidewalk I look up and there they are. I can see the clouds, waves riding on top of the endless ocean of the night sky. They glide with ease occasionally allowing the stars of sand to sparkle and reveal themselves. They seem infinite as I gaze upward, constant always flowing across the dark ocean of the sky.
Its quite now, I"m all alone like a ship in the middle of nowhere. The waves almost have no sounds when you"re on a boat; they have nothing to crash into just like the clouds in the sky tonight. They have a calming quality about them, almost hypnotic in a sense. The never ending rush puts me in a trance as I watch them. So peaceful yet with a great force behind them, their job never-ending, in a struggle they have fought since the beginning of time itself.
Suddenly like the white whale of Captain Ahab's obsession the moon appears. Like a monstrous beast of the ocean, it makes its presence known. Splashing through the clouds only to be devoured once again by the waves of the sky. Yet it is too colossal to be imprisoned beneath the clouds, it engages in an endless struggle for supremacy of the night sky. Now a break in the clouds appears and moon seems like the whale of the sky even more. Almost floating on top of the sky allowing us a tiny glimpse of its massive shape. Even with all its size and power, the whale like moon is once again devoured by the waves of the sky. And they continue once again on their endless journey across the ocean and I continue on my way home.
